10 Delta PDP Lawmakers To Join APC – Omo-Agege

Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has revealed that 10 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Delta State House of Assembly are preparing to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move could lead to a major shift in the state’s political balance.

Omo-Agege, who was the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, made this known on Saturday while welcoming Chief Itiako Ikpokpo, a two-term chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, into the APC. The event, which took place in Uro-Irri, attracted party members and political figures.

He noted that the PDP’s control over Delta State was weakening, adding, “A major realignment in the power structure of the Delta State House of Assembly is looming as 10 lawmakers are set to dump PDP for APC.”

Currently, the APC has seven lawmakers in the Delta State House of Assembly. If the reported defections take place, the party’s numbers would rise to 17, possibly giving it an upper hand in legislative decisions.

Omo-Agege linked the APC’s growing influence in Delta State to the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu, stating that these policies had increased the state’s federal allocation to over N1 trillion within a year and a half.

“The financial improvements under Tinubu’s administration show that APC is delivering good governance. More politicians are aligning with the ruling party because of these achievements,” he said.

Welcoming Ikpokpo into the party, Omo-Agege described his defection as a significant moment for the APC.

“I have persistently pressured Ikpokpo to join the APC, and today, he has finally made the move,” he noted, adding that Ikpokpo had supported him during the 2023 elections despite being in PDP at the time.

In response, Ikpokpo assured the APC leadership of his commitment to strengthening the party’s structure in Delta State.

“We must welcome new entrants with open arms because unity is key in defeating PDP in 2027,” he stated.

Echoing similar views, APC Isoko South Chairman Vincent Egbogbo said the defections signal greater victories for the party in the future.

“The APC is preparing to take over Delta State in 2027, and we must consolidate our efforts to ensure PDP’s total defeat,” Egbogbo said.
