13-Year-Old Boy Arrested for Threatening Schoolmates with Father’s Gun

Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a 13-year-old pupil, Samuel Sunday, for carrying his father’s gun to school and threatening to shoot his classmates. The incident occurred at St. Paul Primary School in Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area (LGA).

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing in Uyo on Wednesday. He stated that the teenager’s father had also been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

Azare explained, “On 30/01/2025 at about 0800hrs, the Command received information that on 28/01/2025 one Samuel Sunday, a 13-year-old pupil of St. Paul Primary School, Ikot Ibiok, was going armed (with a gun) in the school, threatening to fire at fellow pupils.”

He further noted that officers quickly responded to the situation and arrested the boy. A locally made pistol was recovered from him. During interrogation, the boy admitted that he had been in possession of the gun since November 2024. He claimed to have found it in a wardrobe in his father’s bedroom. The police then arrested the father as part of their investigation.
