2-Year-Old Girl Sold for N100,000 in Abuja Rescued in Aba

A two-year-old girl who was reportedly trafficked from Abuja to Aba earlier this year has been successfully rescued by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

The child, now identified as Chiamaka Favor (not her real name), was discovered and recovered on May 8, 2025, following swift intervention by security agents and anti-trafficking officers.

According to a statement issued by NAPTIP on Friday, the child had been sold for ₦100,000 by a suspected trafficker who allegedly worked in connection with multiple trafficking rings operating from the Federal Capital Territory.

The suspect was apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abia State and later handed over to NAPTIP for further investigation.

NAPTIP notes that the child was trafficked in February and relocated to Aba, where she was eventually rescued.

Authorities believe the suspect collaborated with at least three different trafficking groups to carry out the sale of the young girl. Although the names of the syndicates have not been made public, sources say efforts are being made to uncover the full network involved.

“The suspected trafficker, arrested by DSS Abia and handed over to NAPTIP, is alleged to have worked with three trafficking syndicates from Abuja and sold the child to a buyer for ₦100,000,” the agency stated.
