On Friday night, security forces in Benue State confirmed the successful rescue of 20 medical students who were kidnapped. The students, who were abducted while traveling to Enugu for the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS), were saved after a coordinated rescue effort.
According to information from security sources shared with Channels TV, the rescue operation was led by the office of the National Security Adviser. A joint team comprising the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and military personnel, along with the support of the Benue State government, worked together to free the students.
The students had been traveling in two buses on Thursday evening when they were ambushed around 5:30 pm. They were coming from northern Nigeria, heading to the convention when their journey was suddenly interrupted by armed men. The kidnappers contacted the students’ families the next day, demanding a ransom of ₦50 million for their release.
