A 20-year-old man from Jigawa State is now in police custody after allegedly killing his father in a violent machete attack. The incident happened in Bakin Kasuwa Quarters of Sara District, located within the Gwaram Local Government Area. It occurred around 10 a.m. on Sunday, sending shockwaves through the quiet community.
The police in Jigawa State have confirmed the incident. According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Shi’isu Adam, the suspect, identified as Muhammad Salisu, used a machete to attack his father, Salisu Abubakar. The victim suffered deep cuts to his shoulder, neck, and chest.
“The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu for medical attention, but unfortunately, he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on call,” said Adam.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Sara and his patrol team were immediately deployed to the scene. The officers arrived quickly, evacuated the injured man to the hospital, and later released his body to the family for burial.
Adam noted that the police recovered the weapon used in the attack and have since arrested the suspect. The machete is now in police custody as evidence.
The motive for the killing remains unclear. The police say investigations are ongoing to determine what led to the tragic incident. “The suspect is currently in police custody, and the police are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the PPRO stated.
The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, AT Abdullahi, has ordered that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation.
“Upon completion of investigation, the suspect would be arraigned in court to face the full weight of the law. The police command is determined to ensure justice is served in this heinous crime,” the commissioner said.
