The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken serious action against exam malpractice during the ongoing 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). According to the examination body, 27 individuals have been arrested for attempting to impersonate others during the UTME.
The suspects are now in the custody of the Nigeria Police and are expected to face legal prosecution soon. JAMB made it clear that it remains firm in its mission to uphold integrity in the examination process.
Alongside the arrests, JAMB has delisted four Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for not meeting the board’s strict ethical and technical standards. The affected centres are:
- Adventure Associate, located behind Sheshe Supermarket, off Hadejia Road, Kano, Kano State.
- Saadatu Rimi College of Education, Zaria Road, Naibawa, Kano, Kano State.
- Penta M & F Technical Services Ltd, Centre 1, at 96km Sokoto-Jega Road, Tambuwal.
- Penta M & F Technical Services Ltd, Centre 2, at the same address in Tambuwal.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, noted, “While JAMB commends the 883 centres that have demonstrated exceptional performance, it unequivocally warns that any centre which fails to meet ethical or technical standards, regardless of ownership, will be blacklisted.”
He further stated that candidates previously assigned to these delisted centres must reprint their examination slips to confirm their new exam dates and venues.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but we will not entertain excuses from candidates who fail to reprint their slips,” JAMB said.
As of Friday, April 25, over 900,000 candidates out of the total 2,083,600 registered have already taken the UTME.
JAMB also addressed a recent issue at Caleb University’s CBT centre, where some female candidates wearing hijabs were reportedly prevented from entering. The board called the incident “unauthorized” and clarified that it was caused by an “overzealous security officer.”
“This misguided action was the result of an overzealous security officer,” JAMB stated.
“We extend our sincere apologies to the affected candidates and commend the leadership of both the centre and the university for their prompt intervention, which ensured that no candidate suffered undue disadvantage,” the board added.
