The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed rumors of a conflict between Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, and Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Speculations have suggested a potential disagreement between the two over the 2027 governorship election, but the party has firmly denied such claims.
Seye Oladejo, the APC’s Publicity Secretary in Lagos, addressed the issue in an interview with Daily Trust. He blamed opposition parties for spreading false information to create tension within the ruling party.
Oladejo emphasized that the APC’s focus remains on governance and the upcoming 2025 local government elections, not future political contests.
“The party has not spoken about the 2027 election. This is the time for impactful governance, not needless politicking to heat the polity,” Oladejo told DAILY TRUST. He assured that there is no division between Seyi Tinubu and Speaker Obasa and accused political rivals of trying to exploit the situation for their own agenda.
Oladejo also refuted claims that Seyi Tinubu had been endorsed by party leaders or other groups. He described such endorsements as external attempts to sow discord within the APC. “Unity and progress should be our primary focus,” he said.
These remarks come amidst heightened speculation about the 2027 governorship race, with some groups voicing support for Seyi Tinubu’s potential candidacy. However, the APC insists that it is premature to discuss the matter and reiterated its commitment to delivering effective governance for the people of Lagos State.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also distanced itself from the rumors. Philip Aivoji, the PDP Chairman in Lagos, denied any involvement in fueling the controversy. “Anyone behind such allegations is on their own,” Aivoji stated.
