2027: Atiku, Mark, Secondus Rally PDP Members, Others to Join Coalition

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, and other prominent leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have urged Nigerians and party members to unite behind a new opposition coalition, which they say is the best way to remove President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in 2027.

This message came through a communiqué issued by David Mark after a gathering of senior PDP leaders in Abuja. The communiqué noted, “The meeting encourages all well-meaning PDP members and other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition.”

The document also stated that the goal of the coalition is to bring together individuals and groups who are committed to working for national unity, democracy, security, economic recovery, and the elimination of corruption from Nigerian institutions. It added that strategies for winning elections would be developed based on both local and national realities.

While President Tinubu’s administration has seen some positive steps, it has also been criticized for poor handling of key issues. Many opposition leaders have said the APC-led government has failed to meet the expectations of the people.

Although the PDP is leading efforts to form a new coalition, it is not without its own troubles. The party, along with others such as the Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), has been facing internal problems.

In an effort to overcome these challenges and build a strong front before the 2027 elections, several top politicians including Atiku, LP’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai announced the creation of a united opposition coalition in Abuja on March 20.
