2027: El-Rufai Confirms Atiku, Obi Coalition, Vows Tinubu’ll be Sent Packing

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has confirmed that a meeting of the stakeholders of the proposed coalition was held in Abuja on Tuesday. The meeting reportedly brought together key opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party leader Peter Obi.

Speaking in Katsina at the Arewa TechFest on Wednesday, El-Rufai spoke openly about the political strategy being formed ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to him, the meeting held at 8 PM on Tuesday was crucial in forming a united front against President Bola Tinubu.

“Yesterday at 8 PM, there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos,” El-Rufai said while addressing the tech-focused crowd.

The gathering in Abuja, which included multiple opposition figures and stakeholders, saw the adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform on which the coalition would contest the 2027 elections. This move signals a unified strategy among various opposition blocs, which have in the past been divided across multiple party lines.

El-Rufai, a former ally of President Tinubu, has become increasingly critical of the current administration. However, he did speak positively about the current Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, stating that he should be retained in any future government formed by the coalition.

“Though we will still keep Bosun Tijani, we will still keep the minister because he is doing good work,” El-Rufai noted.
