2027: I Won’t Contest Oyo Governorship Election – FIRS Boss, Adedeji

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zaccheus Adedeji, has announced he will not run for the governorship of Oyo State in 2027.

Speaking at a New Year service held in his hometown, Iwo Ate, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State, Adedeji clarified his decision, stating that his focus remains on his current role as FIRS chairman.

Adedeji, a former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, has been widely speculated as a potential successor to Governor Seyi Makinde.

However, he used the platform of the church service to address these rumors, emphasizing his commitment to his responsibilities at the federal level.

“I, Zacch Adedeji, will not contest for the governorship election in 2027,” he stated firmly, acknowledging that this decision might disappoint his supporters. “I know a lot of people would not be happy about this, but everybody knows the responsibility and grace that God has given to us.”

Adedeji highlighted his achievements during his time as Commissioner for Finance, saying he had fulfilled his duties to Oyo State during that tenure. He urged his supporters to pray for him as he seeks to excel in his current role.

Appointed by President Bola Tinubu in September 2023, Adedeji also served as Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council before taking on his current position.
