2027: LP Will Use Anambra Guber Polls as a Forerunner – Abure

The Labour Party (LP) is treating the upcoming Anambra State governorship election as a key test ahead of the 2027 presidential race. The party’s National Chairman, Comrade Julius Abure, made this known during a gathering in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The event was organized by the Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI) to provide a platform for LP aspirants to interact with party delegates before the party’s primary election.

A statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, in Abuja on Sunday confirmed Abure’s remarks. Although he was not physically present, Abure was represented by the party’s National Women Leader, Mrs. Dudu Manuga.

“We want to use Anambra to test what 2027 will be. Labour Party has grown beyond a briefcase party. We are present in all states of Nigeria and Abuja, and we are preparing not just for Anambra but for 2027,” he said.

Abure also noted the importance of unity within the party, urging all aspirants and members to work together after the primary election. He stressed that no candidate should hold grudges once the primaries are concluded, as their collective effort would determine the party’s success in the main election.

“After the primary election this Saturday, no one is permitted to be angry. We must unite and work towards victory in the main election in November. Let us not be weak or divided. Together, nothing is impossible,” he added.

The LP Chairman further stated that the party’s plan includes strengthening grassroots mobilization by establishing a presence at every polling unit in Anambra. According to him, this would ensure strong support for the party’s candidate in November.

“This forum is to connect aspirants with the people they wish to govern. What is happening today in Anambra is crucial for our victory in 2027.”

At the event, two leading governorship aspirants, Dr. George Moghalu and Mr. John Nwosu, addressed party members, sharing their plans for the state.

Dr. Moghalu pointed out that the lack of public trust in government has been a major issue in Anambra. He also raised concerns about security and tax collection methods.

“People no longer trust the government. Security has collapsed, and thugs are being used to enforce tax collection. If the government does the right thing, people will willingly pay taxes without coercion. Tax collection can also be done electronically.”

He assured party members that he would focus on restoring public confidence, improving security, and bringing governance closer to the people if elected.
