2027: PDP Risks Losing All Strongholds if Atiku Runs, Says Anakwenze

Former presidential hopeful under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze, has issued a strong warning to the party regarding the 2027 elections. He believes that if Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is selected again as the party’s candidate, PDP may lose control of the few states it still governs.

Speaking in Abagana, a community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, Dr. Anakwenze — who was recently chosen as the Regent of Abagana — shared his concerns about the direction of the party. He noted that the PDP needs a fresh approach and new leaders with strong ideas who can stand up to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I belong to PDP. PDP has problems because people like Atiku do not want it to succeed. He is one of those holding the party down,” he said.

Anakwenze noted that Nigeria has suffered from poor leadership over the years. He pointed out that the country is rich in resources, yet it continues to face hardship and underdevelopment. According to him, this is because the nation has not been led by its most capable citizens. “The smartest people in Nigeria have not ruled the country, and that is why we are losing on all fronts,” he said.

He also criticized the way power is being handled in the country, saying those in charge often care more about religion and ethnicity than the good of the nation. “In Nigeria, only people who are supposed to be in prison are the ones calling the shots,” he added.

Dr. Anakwenze recently took up the role of Regent of Abagana following the passing of the town’s traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Igwe Patrick Mbamalu Okeke. He received official recognition from the Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs.

In his remarks, he expressed gratitude for the trust his people placed in him: “I wish to inform the entire world that I have been honoured with another prestigious position in my community. The good people of Abagana have selected me to take charge for a successful period of six months, and I promise to bring massive change, including the involvement of younger people in the Igwe cabinet.”

Anakwenze promised to use his time as Regent to empower young people and prepare them for future leadership. He also mentioned that he would accept full kingship if his people requested it, noting his past efforts to develop the community.

Additionally, he plans to continue supporting widows through scholarships for their children and expand medical outreach programs he has run for years. He wants to make these programs permanent community projects.

Despite his new role, he made it clear that he would not permanently relocate to Abagana, saying the town has many capable individuals who can handle day-to-day matters.

“My major interest is to make Abagana one of the best communities in Anambra State. I will continue to contribute my quota, and this new position will spur me to do more,” Anakwenze concluded.
