2027: We’ve Not Agreed On Merger With Any Political Party — Peter Obi

The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has denied claims that his party has finalized any merger agreement with other opposition parties.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Obi firmly stated that there is “no agreement yet” between LP and any political group, despite ongoing speculations about potential partnerships with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

While Obi neither confirmed nor ruled out the possibility of merger discussions, he made it clear that no formal decision has been made.

Instead, he called on Nigerians, regardless of their political leanings, to unite in addressing the nation’s challenges.

“It is only through unity that we can defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said, accusing the APC of “mismanaging” Nigeria’s resources.

Obi also shared his deep concerns about the worsening security situation in the country. He lamented the increasing violence caused by banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings, which he said were sending innocent Nigerians to their untimely deaths.

Additionally, Obi criticized the current administration’s approach to fighting corruption. He argued that corruption remains rampant, noting that excessive government spending and unchecked foreign travels in 2024 have only worsened Nigeria’s financial woes. This, he said, has contributed to the rising public debt and economic instability.
