Police operatives in Abia State Command have arrested 245 suspects and rescued 27 victims, including 9 kidnapped victims and 18 trafficked children, between January and June 2025.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, made this known while speaking with journalists in Umuahia on Friday. Out of the total number of suspects arrested, he noted that 230 were men while 15 were women.
According to Isa, “A total of 230 male suspects and 15 female suspects were successfully apprehended during various operations, prosecuted and some remanded in custody. 9 kidnapped victims and 18 trafficked children were safely rescued.”
He noted that these arrests and rescues were part of the command’s ongoing efforts to tackle crime and make the state safer for economic activities.
During the period under review, the police recovered many items believed to have been used in criminal acts. These included 15 locally made short guns, 4 AK-47 rifles, 2 Ruger 1022 Archangel foreign rifles, 1 LAR rifle, 1 long-range smoke gun, 1 locally made Baretta pistol, 1 pump action gun, 1 English Czech Scorpion pistol, and 347 rounds of various ammunition.
Other recovered items included bags of substances suspected to be cannabis and other hard drugs, four vehicles, two motorcycles, and three auto-rickshaws.
Also listed were 5 gas cylinders, 8 iron protectors, mobile phones, inverter batteries, knives, axes, electrical cables, generators, television sets, and even assorted cartons of suspected fake wine and chemicals.
CP Isa noted that these breakthroughs show the command’s success in fighting crimes like murder, robbery, rape, kidnapping, and vandalism of public property.
He said, “The Abia State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime, reducing incidents of murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, vandalism of government properties, rape, and defilement. Through diligent operations, suspects have been apprehended, and numerous exhibits have been recovered, including firearms of various specifications, stolen vehicles, and illicit substances.”
He assured residents that the police would keep working with other security agencies and the public to maintain peace.
