30 Dead, 2 Injured in Fatal Ondo Road Crash

A devastating accident on Saturday evening claimed the lives of at least 30 people along the Lagos-Ore Expressway, near Ore in Ondo State. The crash, which occurred at Mile 49 in the Odigbo Local Government Area, involved a head-on collision between two vehicles.

The Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the incident on Sunday. He stated that the victims were burned beyond recognition due to the severity of the crash. The accident was reportedly caused by excessive speeding and traffic violations.

Ibitoye explained that reckless driving led to the fatal collision, leaving little chance for the passengers to escape. “No fewer than 30 people were burnt beyond recognition in the accident,” he said. He also stressed the importance of road safety, urging drivers to be more cautious to prevent such tragedies.

The two survivors, who sustained severe injuries, were rushed to the General Hospital in Ore, where they are currently receiving medical attention. Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
