379,997 Candidates to Retake 2025 UTME as JAMB Registrar Admits Result Glitches

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken full responsibility for the issues that affected the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which led to mass failure among candidates.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, became visibly emotional, wiping tears as he addressed the media.

He announced that 379,997 candidates would be required to retake the UTME due to problems linked to technical faults and irregularities during the initial exams.

Prof. Oloyede noted that the affected candidates were from centres with confirmed cases of technical glitches, mostly in Lagos and the Owerri Zone, which covers five southeastern states. Specifically, 65 centres in Lagos and 92 in the Owerri Zone will be involved in the rescheduled exams.

He stated, “We take full responsibility for what happened,” admitting that lapses on the part of some JAMB officials contributed to the widespread failure.

The announcement followed a wave of complaints from students and parents about system errors and abnormally low scores. The board has assured candidates that proper steps are being taken to ensure a fair and improved re-examination process.
