388 Suspects Arraigned, 128 Convicted in 2024 – FCT Police

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the arraignment of 388 suspects in 2024 for various crimes, with 128 convictions secured during the year. This was revealed in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, 38 suspects faced charges related to kidnapping, resulting in 21 convictions. In cases of “one-chance” robbery, the police achieved 11 convictions out of 16 cases. Similarly, the Command handled 32 homicide cases, securing eight convictions, while 178 fraud-related cases led to 58 convictions.

SP Adeh highlighted other crimes tackled by the Command, such as burglary, with 26 suspects arraigned and eight convictions recorded. Car theft cases numbered 21, and the police secured 11 convictions. However, no convictions were made in 58 cases of police misconduct.

In total, the Command received 1,426 crime reports in 2024, leading to the arrest of 1,077 suspects. Among these, 216 arrests were linked to 104 kidnapping cases. The police also apprehended 132 suspects from 268 armed robbery cases and 71 suspects from 263 “one-chance” robbery reports.

Cybercrime saw 15 arrests from 32 cases, while 68 homicide reports resulted in 78 arrests. Additionally, 385 fraud cases led to 422 arrests, and 38 cultism cases resulted in 59 arrests. Car thefts accounted for 127 reports and 64 arrests.

The Command rescued 68 kidnap victims and 19 victims of “one-chance” robberies during the year. It also recovered 376 firearms, including 13 AK-47 magazines, and 187 rounds of live ammunition. Monetary recoveries included N36.85 million from kidnap suspects and N68.55 million from armed robbery suspects.
