Over 500 households in Kaduna’s Kauru Local Government Area have been displaced following repeated bandit attacks. The Chairman of the Community Development Associations (CDA), Abel Adamu, revealed this during a press briefing on Sunday in Kaduna.
He noted the increasing violence in the region, which has led to loss of lives, abductions, and the destruction of property.
Adamu described the situation as alarming, particularly highlighting the rising cases of abductions.
He called on security forces to take immediate action to address the insecurity. He recounted a tragic incident last Friday in Kiffin Chawai, where a woman was killed by her abductors despite her family paying the demanded ransom.
The recent attacks have displaced many residents and visitors in Kumana and Kauru chiefdoms. Areas such as Dokan Karji, Bandi, Rumaya, Kwassam, Kaibi, Kusheka, Geshere, and Binawa have also been severely affected. “This is uncalled for, and we plead for immediate action from the government to ensure the safety and security of our people,” Adamu stated.
Kauru Local Government Area, known for its farming activities, has become a hotspot for banditry, crippling economic activities. Adamu expressed frustration over the deteriorating security and urged the government to establish two military bases—one each in Kauru and Kumana chiefdoms—to provide a permanent security presence.
While commending the recent establishment of a military base in Chawai, Adamu called for additional security personnel to address ongoing attacks in the region. He assured the government of the community’s willingness to cooperate in restoring peace.
Adamu also praised the Kaduna State Governor for initiating the Pambegua-Kauru Road project, noting its importance for accessibility.
He explained that poor road infrastructure has delayed responses from Operation Safe Haven, based in Kafanchan, as they often travel up to ten hours to reach the scene of attacks.
He urged the government to extend the road construction to Kwassam, Geshere, and Mariri to improve security and economic prospects for the region.
The CDA chairman also commended the efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for facilitating the establishment of a military barrack in Southern Kaduna. He expressed hope that this initiative would help address security challenges in the area.
Finally, Adamu acknowledged the dedication of Kauru’s local government officials and representatives at both the state and national levels, who are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of the community.
