Inter Milan stormed to the top of Serie A with a dominant 5-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on Saturday. The reigning champions scored all five goals in a remarkable first-half display, leaving their opponents and fans stunned.
Simone Inzaghi’s team showcased their firepower, with Marcus Thuram leading the charge. The French forward netted two quick goals, while Joaquin Correa, Stefan de Vrij, and Yann Bisseck also found the back of the net. This emphatic win moved Inter two points clear of Napoli, though Atalanta could take the top spot later in the day if they beat Parma.
Joaquin Correa, who had seen little action this season, was the standout performer. His brilliant chip in the 17th minute opened the scoring and marked his first Serie A goal in over two years. Filling in for the unwell Lautaro Martinez, Correa impressed with his sharpness, hitting the woodwork twice and assisting Thuram’s first goal.
Thuram’s brace came in a three-minute burst, with both goals displaying his agility as he danced past Verona’s goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò. The Frenchman’s clinical finishing added to Verona’s misery.
The defensive duo of De Vrij and Bisseck rounded off the rout with powerful strikes, both stemming from Correa’s involvement. By halftime, the home crowd vented their frustration with boos and chants, urging their team to fight harder.
