The Edo State Vehicle Recovery Committee has successfully retrieved 30 vehicles that were reportedly held by members of the previous administration, according to an announcement made on Thursday by the committee’s chairman, Kelly Okungbowa.
The update was shared through a statement issued by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo. The chairman praised whistleblowers for their significant role in the operation, which led to the recovery of multiple vehicles, including some from the residences of former top government officials.
“We have recovered two Land Cruiser Jeeps and two Toyota Hilux vehicles from a former high-ranking official of the immediate past government. One of the vehicles contained campaign posters and umbrellas,” Okungbowa stated.
Additionally, the committee reported the retrieval of another Hilux vehicle, marking the total number of recovered vehicles at 30 since the committee began its operations.
The committee has been given a two-week deadline to finalize the recovery process. Okungbowa reassured the public that they remain committed to ensuring all government assets are accounted for and returned.
“We appeal to the public for more information to aid our operations. Whistleblowers have been instrumental to our success, and we are committed to rewarding anyone who provides helpful tips,” he added.
The chairman further revealed that the committee is prepared to extend its efforts nationwide, emphasizing that no location is off-limits in the pursuit of retrieving state-owned property.
Earlier recoveries included three vehicles found last Friday, consisting of one Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses. Notably, one of the buses contained bags of rice meant for palliatives, which were reportedly intended for distribution to residents of Edo State.
