French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on Thursday for a historic two-day state visit to Paris, marking the first such engagement by a Nigerian leader in over 20 years. The visit aims to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties between France and Africa’s most populous nation.
The ceremonial reception began at the iconic Invalides Memorial Complex, where Macron greeted Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, with full honors, including the playing of both national anthems.
The leaders later proceeded to the Elysee Palace for bilateral discussions. Macron emphasized that the visit provides “an opportunity to deepen the already dynamic relationship between France and Nigeria.”
President Tinubu’s office highlighted that the trip focuses on fostering partnerships in areas such as agriculture, security, education, healthcare, and energy transition.
Additionally, discussions will cover innovation, youth engagement, and the development of Nigeria’s solid minerals sector. These areas are critical as Nigeria seeks to attract foreign investment and combat domestic challenges, including high inflation and widespread poverty.
