The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that married female corps members no longer need to change their surnames to their spouse’s name to qualify for redeployment.
This development was revealed in an official circular issued by Abubakar Mohammed, the Director of Corps Mobilization, and distributed to NYSC state directors, acting directors, and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) coordinators.
The circular, dated November 25, 2024, was titled “Review of Criteria for Concessional Deployment/Relocation for Married Female Corps Members.” It outlines updates to the criteria for married female corps members seeking redeployment based on their marital status.
According to the document, the requirement for a maiden name to be changed to a spouse’s name has been removed from the conditions for granting redeployment requests. However, it clarified that all other existing requirements for such applications remain unchanged.
The NYSC directed state and FCT coordinators to strictly adhere to the new guidelines, with area directors instructed to ensure proper implementation and monitoring.
This policy update aims to simplify the redeployment process for married female corps members while maintaining the integrity of the service’s operations.
