The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has initiated an inquiry into allegations of unauthorized salary deductions and delays in payment of promotion arrears affecting paramilitary officers across Nigeria.
This development follows online reports highlighting grievances from officers within paramilitary organizations, including complaints about deductions made through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
These concerns also extend to significant delays in the release of financial benefits tied to promotions, which many officers have been awaiting for extended periods.
In response to these allegations, Ahmed Ja’afaru, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board, released a statement on Sunday. He confirmed that an investigation had been launched to determine the root cause of the salary discrepancies. Ja’afaru appealed to the affected officers to remain patient, assuring them that the matter was being treated with urgency.
“The attention of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board has been drawn to an online publication of complaints from officers of the paramilitary services under its purview, alleging deductions from their salaries by the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, as well as delays in the payment of promotion arrears,” Ja’afaru stated.
He further emphasized the board’s commitment to resolving the issue promptly, urging all officers to stay calm while awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
