Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the indefinite suspension of Uchenna Igwe, the state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters. The suspension, which takes effect immediately, comes after allegations of serious misconduct and negligence of duty.
The governor made the announcement during a press briefing at the Government House in Abakaliki, where he outlined the reasons behind the decision.
According to reports, Igwe failed to carry out a key directive that involved ensuring local government pension payments were processed by a council chairman. This failure was deemed a violation of his responsibilities and a breach of the trust placed in him by the state administration.
This suspension adds to a growing list of similar actions taken by Governor Nwifuru’s government. Just recently, three other commissioners in the departments of housing and urban development, water resources, and health were also suspended for alleged misconduct.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized his commitment to maintaining accountability within his administration and assured that these actions are in line with his administration’s vision to meet the needs of the people. “We are dedicated to upholding the people’s charter of needs,” he stated, reaffirming his government’s focus on integrity and good governance.
