Zamfara State Police have identified the terrorist group Lakurawa as being behind the recent explosions that claimed lives and caused injuries in the Dansadau district of Maru Local Government Area (LGA). This revelation came from the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, during a telephone interview.
According to Dalijan, the latest explosion occurred on Wednesday at Yar Tasha village along the Dansadau road. A commercial vehicle transporting passengers hit an explosive device, suspected to have been planted by the terrorists. The incident resulted in one fatality and left three others with injuries.
He explained: “Yes, there was an explosion along Dansadau road this morning, and it was a bomb planted under a bridge. The motorist stepped on it, and it exploded, killing one person and injuring three others.”
Preliminary investigations suggest the explosive was planted by remnants of the Lakurawa terrorists, who are reportedly under intense military pressure to flee the country.
“They are trying to find their way to Birnin-Gwari forest en route to Zamfara state. By the grace of God, we will get them and deal with them decisively,” Dalijan stated, urging the public to provide any useful information about the terrorists’ movements.
This marks the second explosion on Dansadau road in less than a week.
On Sunday, a similar device killed a commercial driver in Mai-Gungume village. A local resident from Yar Tasha revealed that the bomb was likely hidden during recent community work on the road, saying: “The bandits used that opportunity to plant the device at one of the spots where we filled some potholes.”
The injured victims were taken to Dansadau General Hospital for treatment, though their current condition remains uncertain. Security forces, including police and soldiers, have been dispatched to the scene to secure the area and investigate.
