The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed four members of the Labour Party (LP) from the House of Representatives, along with Erthiatake Ibori-Suenu, the daughter of former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, on Thursday.
The defecting lawmakers are Tochukwu Okere from Imo State, Donatus Mathew from Kaduna State, Bassey Akiba from Cross River State, and Iyawe Esosa from Edo State. Their decision to leave the Labour Party was officially announced during a House plenary session, where their letters of defection were read by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.
Erthiatake Ibori-Suenu, who previously represented the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also joined the APC, marking another notable political realignment. Her decision signifies a shift in loyalty that could have implications in her home state, Delta.
Among the defectors, Donatus Mathew, representing the Kaura Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, offered insights into his reasoning. He stated, “I am taking this decision based on conviction.” While acknowledging differing opinions within his constituency, he emphasized his belief that the move aligns with the best interests of many people he represents.
