President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has congratulated Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, on his recent election victory.
Mahama emerged as the winner of Ghana’s general elections held on December 7, marking his return to leadership after previously serving as President from 2012 to 2017.
President Tinubu conveyed his congratulations during a telephone call, expressing optimism that Mahama’s return would bolster stability within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), where Tinubu currently serves as chairman.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, issued a statement praising the Ghanaian people for their peaceful and democratic electoral process.
He commended Ghanaians for reaffirming their commitment to democracy, describing the elections as proof that democratic governance remains a pathway to political stability, economic progress, and social justice in Africa.
Tinubu lauded the efforts of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s Vice President and candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), for graciously conceding defeat even before the official results were announced.
“Bawumia’s stance reinforced Ghana’s democratic ethos,” Tinubu remarked.
Tinubu noted that Mahama’s victory reflects the trust of Ghanaians in his leadership and vision. He also thanked outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo for his contributions to Ghana’s development and regional stability. Looking ahead, Tinubu expressed eagerness to collaborate with Mahama’s administration to strengthen Nigeria-Ghana relations and promote unity in West Africa.
