Nigeria has once again demonstrated its leadership in the global energy industry with the appointment of Mr. Ademola Adeyemi-Bero as Chairman of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Board of Governors for 2025.
The decision was officially announced during the 189th meeting of the OPEC Conference, solidifying Nigeria’s prominent role in shaping global energy policies.
The confirmation of this prestigious role was shared in a statement signed by Nneamaka Okafor, Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the Minister of Petroleum, on Tuesday.
Before assuming this new position, Mr. Adeyemi-Bero was appointed as Nigeria’s Governor for OPEC for the year 2025. This dual recognition underscores the country’s dedication to influencing international energy discussions.
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, praised the appointment, highlighting it as a reflection of Nigeria’s active participation in the global oil and gas sector.
He stated that Mr. Adeyemi-Bero’s leadership will provide Nigeria with a crucial platform to promote balanced energy policies that benefit oil producers, consumers, and the broader global economy.
Senator Lokpobiri also expressed deep appreciation for Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Nigeria’s outgoing OPEC Governor, acknowledging his vital contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s position within OPEC and his outstanding service in advancing the nation’s energy interests.
In addition to Mr. Adeyemi-Bero’s appointment, Eng. Adeeb Al-Aama, the Governor of Saudi Arabia for OPEC, was named Alternate Chairman of the Board of Governors for 2025.
The OPEC Conference also addressed other key matters, including extending the tenure of His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais as OPEC Secretary-General for an additional three years starting August 1, 2025.
