An Allied Air Cargo plane with registration number 5N-JRT veered off Runway 22 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja earlier today, leading to a temporary closure of the airport. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that all five individuals onboard the aircraft were evacuated safely without injuries.
The incident, which occurred at 10:05 a.m., caused a swift response from emergency teams. According to Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, “The Airport Emergency Response Team is on the scene along with accident investigators.” She added that the runway is being cleared to resume normal operations soon.
The evacuees underwent medical checks at the FAAN clinic as a precaution, although no injuries were reported. Mrs. Orah urged the public to avoid speculation, stating, “We also request that all speculation be put on hold until the preliminary report is released by the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).”
