Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has submitted the names of six nominees to the Kano State House of Assembly for consideration as commissioners. The announcement was made during a plenary session on Monday, with Speaker Ismail Jibrin Falgore reading the governor’s letter to the Assembly.
This development follows a major shake-up in Governor Yusuf’s cabinet, which recently led to the abolition of the Chief of Staff position, the dismissal of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Abdullahi Bichi, and the removal of five commissioners.
The six nominees include Shehu Sagagi, Dr. Dahiru Mohd Hashim, Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya, Dr. Isma’il Dan Maraya, Gaddafi Sani Shehu, and Abdulkadir AbdulSalam.
Among the nominees, Shehu Sagagi’s appointment stands out, as he was recently reassigned from his role as Chief of Staff to become the Secretary and Head of the Shura Advisory Council. Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya, another notable nominee, previously served as the President of the Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF). Despite being an active member of Kano’s civil society, Wayya has faced criticism for alleged political bias and close ties to the NNPP-led administration.
Dr. Dahiru Mohd Hashim, also on the list, currently leads the Kano Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project. This World Bank-funded initiative addresses land degradation and climate change issues across 19 states in northern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
