President Tinubu Approves New Service Terms for Nigerian Military Personnel

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the new Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service (HTACOS) for the Nigerian Armed Forces, marking a major step toward improving the welfare of military personnel across the country.

The decision was made on Monday during a meeting of the National Defense Council, which President Tinubu presided over. This announcement was confirmed by Dada Olusegun, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media.

On his verified X account, Olusegun stated: “President Tinubu presides over the National Defense Council meeting, approved the new harmonized terms and conditions of service (HTACOS) officers, soldiers/ratings/airmen.”

The revised HTACOS seeks to address long-standing challenges faced by military personnel, including soldiers, ratings, and airmen. These changes are expected to improve service conditions, boost morale, and enhance the overall effectiveness of Nigeria’s defense forces.

During the meeting, President Tinubu emphasized his administration’s dedication to supporting the military in their critical duty to protect the country. He also reiterated the importance of ensuring that the men and women of the armed forces receive the necessary support and resources to carry out their roles effectively.

The approval is part of broader government reforms to strengthen institutional frameworks within the military while prioritizing the welfare of service members. Details of the revised terms and conditions will be officially released by the Ministry of Defense in the coming days.
