Stubborn Ministers Have No Place In Your Govt, Akpabio Tells Tinubu

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the conduct of certain ministers in his administration who fail to honor invitations from the National Assembly.

Akpabio expressed these concerns during President Tinubu’s presentation of the 2025 budget, estimated at ₦47.9 trillion, before a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Speaking before a packed chamber, Akpabio stated, “Those who disregard invitation by the National Assembly are not democratic and therefore have no place in your government.”

He emphasized the importance of accountability, noting that ministers and presidential appointees must respond to legislative inquiries as part of their duty to the nation.

The Senate President warned that the National Assembly has constitutional authority to take measures against officials who fail to comply with its summons. He urged President Tinubu to ensure that his ministers uphold democratic principles and remain answerable to the legislature.

The budget presentation, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed to Wednesday following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa. President Tinubu was accompanied to the event by key officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The session also saw heavy security at the National Assembly complex, reflecting the importance of the occasion. Akpabio’s remarks underscored the need for a collaborative and transparent relationship between the executive and legislative branches
