The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays. These holidays are to mark the celebration of Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, respectively.
Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, confirmed the announcement in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja. The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
In the statement, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended heartfelt holiday greetings to Nigerians, encouraging everyone to use this festive time to reflect on the core values of love, peace, and unity that are central to the Christmas season. He stressed that this period is not only a time of celebration but also a moment to promote harmony and strengthen relationships within families and communities.
“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” said Dr. Tunji-Ojo.
He also urged all Nigerians to continue working towards the peace, unity, and progress of the nation, highlighting the importance of national development. The Minister reassured citizens of the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, security, and prosperity across the country.
Finally, Dr. Tunji-Ojo wished Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, expressing optimism that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration would lead to a stronger and more prosperous economy in 2025.
