Denzel Washington Baptized, Joins Ministry at 69

Renowned Hollywood actor Denzel Washington has made a significant spiritual commitment, marking a new chapter in his life as he was baptized and received a minister’s license this past weekend.

The 69-year-old star, celebrated for his illustrious film career, took this step at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in Harlem, New York City.

The baptism ceremony was conducted by Archbishop Christopher Bryant, who also presented Washington with his minister’s license, paving the way for future ordination.

The moment was celebrated widely, with Bryant sharing photos and a heartfelt message on Facebook, saying, “We celebrate the addition of Minister Denzel Washington into the clergy.”

Reflecting on this transformative experience, Washington shared, “In one week, I turn 70. It took a while, but I’m here.”

He also recounted a prophetic encounter from his youth when Ruth Green, a woman at his mother’s beauty parlor, predicted he would “travel the world and preach to millions of people.” Decades later, he expressed gratitude, saying, “Look at God. If He can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you.”

Washington, who is set to appear in Gladiator II, has always been vocal about his faith, despite acknowledging the challenges of discussing religion in Hollywood. He candidly noted, “You can’t talk like that and win Oscars. But I’m free now. To God be the glory.”
