Honorable Justice Azuka, a Labour Party member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, has been abducted by gunmen.
The incident occurred late on Tuesday night, December 24, 2024, as the lawmaker was returning home. The abduction took place on Ugwunaobankpa Road, located in Inland Town, Onitsha, a bustling commercial hub in the state.
Reports indicate that the assailants intercepted the lawmaker’s vehicle, forcing him out before driving away with him.
Hon. Azuka, who had recently reclaimed his legislative seat after a court ruling in his favor against the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Hon. Douglas Egbuna, is now at the center of an ongoing rescue operation.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident. Its spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, issued a statement regarding the abduction.
He said: “Anambra Police Command, has activated operational plans for the possible rescue and arrest of the kidnappers of Mr.Justice Azuka, the honourable State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency.
“The report of the sad event revealed that on 24/12/2024 by 9:20pm, while returning home at Ugwunaobamkpa road, he was abducted by yet unidentified persons.
“The Command is already working on some clues for possible rescue and arrest of the kidnappers. Further development shall be communicated.”
