Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stirred controversy with claims about his relationship with his predecessor, Dr. Peter Odili.
Speaking during a Special Thanksgiving Service organized by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, in Port Harcourt, Wike shared details about the mansion he says he built for Odili.
Wike stated, “I personally called Julius Berger to build a mansion for Odili to live in.” According to him, Odili was initially full of praise for the gesture, even inviting people to tour the house and see the work done.
However, their relationship appears to have soured, as Wike alleged that Odili has since removed all his photographs from the house.
“When I was governor, my pictures were everywhere in his house—sitting room, bedroom, kitchen, even in the toilet,” Wike claimed. “But today, all the pictures have been removed.”
The former governor also criticized Odili for comments regarding Rivers State’s current governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Wike questioned Odili’s assertion that Fubara, who has been in office for less than a year, has already outperformed previous administrations.
“You spent eight years as governor, and someone who hasn’t spent one year has surpassed your records? What manner of elder talks like that?”
