The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken decisive action against corruption within its ranks, dismissing 27 officers in 2024 for misconduct and fraudulent activities.
The announcement was made on Monday through a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.
The dismissals were approved by the EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, following recommendations from the agency’s Staff Disciplinary Committee.
Oyewale’s statement emphasized the commission’s commitment to integrity, declaring, “In its quest to enforce integrity and rid its fold of fraudulent elements, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission dismissed 27 officers from its workforce in 2024.”
Olukoyede stressed the importance of accountability within the EFCC, reiterating that no staff member is above the law. He assured the public that allegations against EFCC personnel, including a recent claim involving $400,000, would be thoroughly investigated.
“Every modicum of allegation against any staff of the commission would always be investigated,” he said, reaffirming the agency’s zero tolerance for corruption.
The EFCC also alerted the public about impersonators exploiting the name of the Executive Chairman to extort money from high-profile suspects. Recently, two suspects, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, were charged with attempting to extort $1 million from a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
