At least 46 individuals, including women and children, were abducted on Sunday night when unidentified gunmen raided Gana, a small community in Zamfara State. The attack, which took place around 10 p.m., left the residents in panic as the armed assailants terrorized the town.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the attackers, traveling on motorbikes, entered the community while firing shots into the air to instill fear. Several houses and businesses were set ablaze during the assault.
Many residents were forced to flee into nearby bushes in an attempt to escape. Unfortunately, those unable to run—mostly women and children—were taken by the gunmen during a systematic house-to-house search.
This incident comes only weeks after another attack in Kakidawa, Gidan Goga district, where 43 people were reportedly kidnapped. Kidnapping for ransom has become increasingly common in Zamfara and other northern regions of Nigeria, putting communities on edge.
