Rivers Council Chairman Appoints Additional 130 Special Assistants, Total Now 230

The Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has taken another bold step in expanding his administrative team by appointing 130 additional special assistants.

The appointments, announced late Wednesday on Ihunwo’s X account (formerly Twitter), are effective immediately.

This marks a significant increase in his advisory team, bringing the total number of special assistants to 230. Just six months ago, in July 2024, Ihunwo appointed 100 special assistants, making this latest move a noteworthy development in his tenure.

The appointments come against the backdrop of political shifts in Rivers State.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been realigning local government leadership, replacing chairpersons loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, with his own allies. Ihunwo is one of the key figures in this reorganization.

The newly appointed assistants include individuals such as Helen Nyekwere, Josephine Wogu, and Daisy Worgu, among others.

While revealing the list of names, Ihunwo emphasized the importance of commitment and service. He urged the appointees to dedicate themselves to the welfare and progress of the Obio-Akpor community.

“These appointments reflect the need to strengthen our administration and ensure effective service delivery to our people,” Ihunwo’s announcement noted.
