The United States has handed over $52.88 million recovered from assets linked to Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, to the Nigerian government.
This development was announced by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, during a formal ceremony held in Abuja on Friday. The event marked the signing of an agreement between Nigeria and the United States concerning the use of the recovered funds.
Fagbemi, as reported by Channels TV, shared that $50 million of the returned money will be channeled through the World Bank to fund rural electrification projects aimed at improving access to electricity in underserved areas across Nigeria.
The remaining $2 million will be allocated to the International Institute of Justice to strengthen the country’s legal system and support anti-corruption efforts.
