NFF to Unveil Éric Chelle as Super Eagles Head Coach on Monday

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that Éric Sékou Chelle will officially assume his role as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. The unveiling event is scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. in the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

This development was confirmed through an NFF statement on Sunday. Chelle’s appointment was approved last Tuesday by the NFF Executive Committee, following a recommendation from its Technical and Development Committee.

The 47-year-old Franco-Malian coach is stepping into a high-pressure role, as the Super Eagles are one of Africa’s most watched and celebrated teams. NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau expressed his optimism about Chelle’s capabilities.

“We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about football, which is why there have been different reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle,” Gusau stated.

“However, the NFF appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles.”

Chelle’s immediate tasks include leading the Super Eagles B team at next month’s African Nations Championship in East Africa. Later, his focus will shift to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with pivotal games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.

Chelle, who previously managed Algeria’s MC Oran and guided Mali’s Aiglons to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals, brings significant experience to the role. At Monday’s ceremony, his coaching staff will also be introduced.
