NFF Unveils Éric Chelle as Super Eagles Head Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially introduced Éric Sékou Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles on Monday. The event, held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, marked a significant milestone in the team’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau urged Nigerians to rally behind Chelle, emphasizing the federation’s commitment to providing the necessary support for his success.

During the ceremony, Gusau praised Chelle’s enthusiasm and determination, which he believes will positively influence the Super Eagles’ performance. He stated, “I see in the new Head Coach the right spirit and the right attitude, and I have faith that he will take the Super Eagles to the next level.”

Chelle, who has signed a two-year contract with the option for an additional year, brings a wealth of experience, including his tenure as a player for Mali and clubs like Lens and Valenciennes.

The coach expressed gratitude for the opportunity, describing it as a dream role. He assured Nigerians of his commitment, saying, “Coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria is an amazing job; I do not take this appointment for granted.”

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, who pledged government support. Chelle will also oversee the Super Eagles B team in a supervisory capacity for the upcoming African Nations Championship.

With his preference for an attacking football style, Chelle aims to meet Nigeria’s high expectations, focusing on securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
