Dalyce Curry, a retired Hollywood actress renowned for her memorable roles in classics like The Blues Brothers, The Ten Commandments, and Lady Sings the Blues, has tragically passed away in the Los Angeles wildfires. According to a report by Forbes on Monday, Curry was 95 years old.
Authorities revealed that her remains were discovered at her home in Altadena, California, which was completely destroyed by the ongoing wildfires ravaging the area.
The heartbreaking news comes after Curry’s great-granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley, shared details about her final moments. Kelley last saw the beloved actress on the evening of January 7, when she dropped Curry off at her residence. The next day, Kelley tried to check on her but was unable to reach the property due to police roadblocks set up to protect the public from the spreading fire.
Curry’s family searched tirelessly for her, even visiting the Pasadena Civic Centre, a shelter for residents displaced by the disaster. Sadly, she was not found among the evacuees. Days later, officials confirmed the tragic discovery of her remains at the site of her burned-down home.
In a heartfelt message posted on Facebook on January 12, Kelley wrote: “About an hour ago the coroner confirmed her remains were indeed found at the property. #RIPMOMMADEE. We had a great run. She impacted my life in so many ways. This loss is devastating.”
Loree Beamer-Wilkinson, Curry’s granddaughter, remembered her as an energetic and vibrant person despite her advanced age. “She was very active,” Beamer-Wilkinson said. “You would not think she was 95.”
Curry’s death is one of at least 24 fatalities reported as a result of the catastrophic fires that have caused widespread destruction in the Los Angeles area.
