Barcelona’s Inigo Martinez Out for Four Weeks with Hamstring Injury

Barcelona has confirmed that their defender, Inigo Martinez, will be sidelined for approximately four weeks following a hamstring injury. The club made the announcement on Tuesday after medical evaluations were conducted.

The injury occurred during Barcelona’s thrilling 5-2 victory over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, held in Saudi Arabia last Sunday. Martinez, a central figure in Barcelona’s defense this season, had to be substituted during the match due to discomfort in his right leg.

In a statement released by the club, they said: “Tests carried out on Tuesday morning have shown (Martinez) has a right hamstring injury. He will be out for around four weeks.” This news comes as a significant blow to Barcelona, especially during a critical phase of the season.

The 33-year-old defender has been a crucial player under coach Hansi Flick, showcasing solid performances throughout the campaign. His absence means Barcelona will need to adjust their defensive strategies for several key matches.

Ronald Araujo, who stepped in for Martinez during the match against Real Madrid, is expected to fill the gap.

This injury will also see Martinez miss pivotal fixtures, including the remaining two group-stage matches in the UEFA Champions League against Benfica and Atalanta. His absence adds pressure on Barcelona to secure their progression in Europe without one of their top defenders.

Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl around Araujo, with reports linking him to a possible transfer to Juventus. Barcelona will likely rely on their defensive depth to navigate through the coming weeks, while hoping for Martinez’s quick recovery.
