Kylian Mbappe delivered a stellar performance on Sunday, leading Real Madrid to a commanding 4-1 victory over Las Palmas at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The win propelled Los Blancos to the top of the La Liga table, overtaking Atletico Madrid, who suffered a shocking defeat to Leganes the previous day.
Meanwhile, Barcelona, in third place, managed only a draw against Getafe, giving Real Madrid the perfect opportunity to seize the lead.
Mbappe, who joined Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, has found his rhythm after a somewhat inconsistent start to his Spanish journey.
The 26-year-old French forward scored twice during the match, taking his La Liga goal tally to 12, making him the league’s second-highest scorer behind Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski.
Across all competitions, Mbappe has now netted 18 goals in 30 appearances this season, establishing himself as a crucial player in Real Madrid’s attacking lineup.
Despite the absence of Vinicius Junior, who was suspended, Mbappe rose to the occasion under the watchful eyes of the Bernabeu crowd.
However, the game didn’t begin in Madrid’s favor, as Las Palmas stunned the home side with a goal in the opening 30 seconds. Fabio Silva scored from close range following an assist by Sandro Ramirez.
Real Madrid quickly regained control, with Brahim Diaz narrowly missing a scoring opportunity.
Moments later, Mbappe equalized with a penalty after Sandro fouled Rodrygo in the box. Mbappe also played a key role in Madrid’s second goal. After his initial shot was saved, Lucas Vazquez assisted Diaz to finish the rebound.
Mbappe’s second goal came from a stunning strike into the top corner after a clever cut-back from Rodrygo. While he appeared to score a hat-trick before halftime, the goal was ruled offside.
Rodrygo added Madrid’s fourth goal early in the second half, converting Fran Garcia’s low cross after Mbappe initiated the play.
Although Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde had goals disallowed for offside, Madrid’s dominance was clear.
The game also saw the return of David Alaba, who made his first appearance after recovering from a long-term knee injury.
