Senator Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Senate President, has stated that he will not engage in a public exchange of words with the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike.
Wabara made this declaration following controversial remarks made by Wike during a live television interview over the weekend.
In the interview, Wike, while addressing the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP, made pointed comments about Wabara.
He said, “Unfortunately, they have a man they said is a former Senate President. If that man was my father, I would have disowned him. If he was my father or related to me, I would have disowned him. He doesn’t qualify to be. No wonder President Obasanjo made a presidential broadcast under his tenure about corruption. That’s the man leading PDP BoT.”
Responding to these remarks, Senator Wabara maintained his composure, stating that he would not lower himself to trade insults with the FCT Minister. As a statesman and former Number Three Citizen of Nigeria, Wabara explained that engaging in such behavior would not reflect his stature or principles.
“I have expected the FCT Minister to refrain from unguarded utterances, at least as a mark of respect for the position he occupies as a Minister of the Federal Republic and as a former Governor,” Wabara remarked.
He described Wike’s comments as disgraceful and lacking in maturity. Using strong imagery, Wabara likened such remarks to “gibberish like a broken water pipe without a tap.”
The PDP BoT chairman firmly denied any accusations of corruption, emphasizing his clean record. “Nigerians know those who are corrupt, and I can proudly say and beat my chest that I’m not one of them. I, Adolphus Wabara, am not corrupt!” he declared.
In closing, Wabara questioned Wike’s comments, asking, “For a son to disown his father, his father must have wronged him terribly. Can Wike please tell the world what it is I did wrong to him?”
