Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to accusations of anti-party activities.
According to Mohammed, Wike’s actions indicate that he is serving the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and should officially join the party he allegedly supports.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the Bauchi governor criticized Wike’s approach, describing him as a “transactional politician” whose loyalty is dictated by personal ambitions.
Mohammed also accused Wike of attempting to damage his reputation, but he noted that Nigerians can see through the alleged façade.
This exchange follows a recent statement from Wike, through his media aide Lere Olayinka, where he described Mohammed as a “greedy politician” who lacks the capacity to lead as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum. Olayinka argued that the governor’s criticisms were a way to cover up his own failings in providing leadership.
In response, Mohammed accused Wike of betrayal and cited instances of Wike allegedly turning against prominent political figures such as Senator John Azuta Mbata, Dr. Peter Odili, and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi. The governor also blamed Wike for internal crises within the PDP, including the removal of party leaders like Uche Secondus and Iyorchia Ayu.
Mohammed’s statement further claimed that Wike has become a “willing tool” for the APC and that his actions are aimed at weakening the PDP for the benefit of the ruling party. He called on the FCT minister to reflect on his behavior and officially align himself with the APC.
“The time for noise-making is over; it is time for governance. Let Wike reflect on his conduct and do the honorable thing: resign and align fully with the APC he so eagerly serves,” the statement read.
