JUST IN: Aregbesola’s Political Group Quits APC, Explains Decision

The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has announced its exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement signed by the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede, the decision was made after deliberations involving stakeholders from all 332 wards in Osun State during their monthly meeting held in Ilesa.

According to the statement, the group’s departure was fueled by grievances over alleged mistreatment within the APC. Members reported instances of expulsion, suspension, and ostracism without being granted fair hearings. They also claimed the group had been sidelined within the party’s structure.

Abosede further noted dissatisfaction with the APC’s handling of internal disputes, which he said played a role in the party’s disappointing performance in recent elections. These issues, the group said, had significantly weakened the APC’s influence and standing in Osun State.

During the meeting, members voted unanimously to explore a new political platform as they prepare for the 2026 governorship election.

Speaking at the event, Aregbesola commended members for their loyalty to the principles of good governance and integrity. He urged them to remain steadfast as they reposition the Omoluabi Progressives for the future.

“I am indeed happy that all of you have spoken with one voice— a united front to lead the way to our collective victory in the journey ahead,” Aregbesola said.

He described the decision as the beginning of a new chapter aimed at establishing responsible leadership in Osun State.

“Our mission is to raise the level of prosperity of our dear state through responsible leadership. The path we have chosen is smooth, highly reassuring, and full of good tides that will propel Osun to greatness. Therefore, you must show more commitment and attract genuine people who are ready to walk this path of righteousness with us,” Aregbesola said.

The former governor expressed confidence in the group’s strength and vision, noting that ongoing efforts to reposition the Omoluabi Progressives would soon yield positive outcomes.

He added, “We are open to all, regardless of political, religious, or socio-cultural affiliations. We have the numbers, strength, and political acumen to provide leadership that will make Osun the envy of its peers. By the grace of God, we shall succeed.”
