Security operatives have taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat following a heated dispute over the rightful occupant of the party’s National Secretary position. The clash involved Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye, both laying claim to the position, leading to tension within the party.
The situation escalated when Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye arrived separately for a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting. According to sources, an aide to Anyanwu allegedly forced Ude-Okoye out of the meeting, leading to a confrontation between their supporters. The altercation quickly intensified, forcing security agencies to step in and restore order.
To prevent further chaos, a combined team of soldiers, police officers, and personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were deployed to secure the party’s secretariat. Their presence was meant to maintain peace and prevent any further outbreak of violence between the rival groups.
A party insider told DAILY TRUST that tensions had been brewing for some time due to conflicting claims over the National Secretary position. “The disagreement between both factions has been ongoing, and this latest incident is a result of that struggle,” the source stated.
