Matawalle Warns Amaechi Against Inciting Violence, Says Security Agencies on High Alert

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has strongly criticized former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over comments he made regarding Nigeria’s political landscape. Matawalle condemned Amaechi’s remarks as reckless and dangerous, warning that any attempt to incite violence or destabilize the country would be met with legal consequences.

At a conference in Abuja, Amaechi allegedly stated that Nigerian politicians must “steal, maim, and kill” to stay in power. This statement has sparked widespread reactions, with Matawalle describing it as an insult to Nigerians and a threat to national security. He warned against using such rhetoric to influence young people negatively, adding that Nigeria is governed by laws, not a place where power is seized through violence.

“It is both reckless and dangerous for a former public office holder to make such inflammatory remarks. At a time when the government is working tirelessly to consolidate national unity and security, no responsible leader should fan the flames of violence and political unrest,” Matawalle said in response to Amaechi’s statement.

He assured Nigerians that security agencies are fully prepared to handle any attempt to disrupt peace in the country. “Let me make it clear: security agencies are on high alert. Any individual or group found inciting violence or attempting to destabilize this nation will face the full force of the law,” he added.

A statement issued by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, further noted that the government will not tolerate any actions or speeches that could lead to unrest. It emphasized that national unity must be preserved, and no one will be allowed to spread messages that could incite lawlessness.

Matawalle also reminded Amaechi that power is not obtained through intimidation or violence but through democratic means. He stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is focused on maintaining peace and strengthening democracy.

“President Tinubu’s commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation is unwavering. Having experienced both military rule and democratic governance, he would never undermine the very democracy he has fought to uphold,” Matawalle stated.

He further noted that the current administration has made significant progress in a short time and expressed confidence that President Tinubu will win re-election in 2027. He urged Nigerians to support the government and ignore individuals who, according to him, are out of touch with the country’s development.

“Amaechi and others who believe they can manipulate our youth into chaos should rethink their actions. This government will not stand idly by while individuals attempt to disrupt the peace and stability of Nigeria,” he added.
